OBJECTIVES

The Pharmacy Technician program provides students with the technical and practical training necessary for work as an assistant to a licensed pharmacist in a variety of health system settings, including pharmacy chains, hospitals, and skilled-care facilities. Students will examine pharmacy computing, medication preparation, inventory, billing, and quality customer service care. The student acquires the knowledge in preparation of medications, intravenous mixtures, drugs and their side effects.

DESCRIPTION

This course emphasizes calculations and conversations of pills and intravenous drugs as ordered by a physician. The student is taught the fastest and most popular drugs, their brand and generic names, side effects and food and drug interactions. At the externship site, the student will learn how to work with the unit dose system, type labels, and understand the use of computers in Pharmacy and mix medications under a Laminar Hood.
